Historic home?
my name is what? asked:
I just bought a house, but I have a feeling it might be a historic home. I do not want to call the city and ask them if it is. I wanted to buy the home, fix it up and sell it. But if it is a historic home I can not do that. Is there a web-site where I can find if a specific house is considered a historic home?

How do you find a garage apartment or carriage house to rent near UTMB in Galveston?
Kat asked:
All my searches just turn up lots of apartment complexes with bad reviews. Someone on yahoo answers mentioned looking for a garage apartment or carriage house at one of the nice historic homes in the east end near UTMB or the strand… There have also got to be rent houses in the same area and I am having trouble finding listings for anything but weekly beach rentals and apartments. Any help or suggestions appreciated. School starts the end of August!

How do you install a central heating/air unit in a house and what does it typically cost?
jennanna asked:
We want to install our own unit in a 2600 Sq foot home that has no ducts. Anyone have any idea what the estimated cost of installing a typical unit would be?
Or if using a no duct system how many BTU’s might be needed to cool/heat this type of square footage?
Also are there any websites with instructions on installing ducts in a home? We are very hands on do it yourselfers who are buying a historic home and want to be sure it is nice and cooled/heated!

Should I buy a house if it has a historic preservation easement on it?
megsmeany asked:
I am curious if I should rethink purchasing a home if it is protected by a historic preservation easement. Does it affect the value? Does it affect my rights? I can only find information for homeowners wanting to donate easements.

If you buy a home and it’s on the national register of historic places, what does this entail?
Brad asked:
A friend of mine suggested it means you can’t update anything in the home, and you must keep it as “original”. Is this true?

How do I get info on 1890 Farmhouse in OR?
Beth asked:
I am looking into buying an 1890’s farmhouse in a small town in Columbia county, OR. How would I go about seeing if there is any historical value to the house, besides it’s age. I have looked online to see if it listed as a historic home, but have not come up with anything
Thanks for your time,
Beth

I would like help decorating our fireplace mantle. It’s white and our walls are a warm brown?
Brenda N asked:
I only have a painting by a New Orleans artist in the center. It’s mainly red and yellow. The tiles around the fireplace are small and kind of a turquoise green. It’s in a dining room as you enter our historic home.
I would appreciate any suggestions.

Would anyone be interested in investing in a historic property?
porhtronranie2 asked:
Last year I purchased a historic property here in south eastern Colorado which inludes 3 homes on almost 2 acres. Due to a tenant trashing one of the homes, and the subsequent $4000.00 I had to put out to repair it, I now have the bank starting foreclosure proceedings. The repairs wiped out all my savings, and I would be very interested in any potential solutions that would allow me to keep my property. Any ideas?

How much space do you need to create a 1/2bathroom? We have a kitchen pantry.what does the WIDTH have to be?
Leslie asked:
We are purchasing a home with no first floor bathroom. The only space available is the Kitchen pantry. (The other rooms have beautiful beams on the ceiling & or a fireplace or baywindow or columns & we dont want to take away from the integrity of the historic home. Under the stairs is not an option (it turns and becomes the basement stairs.) So, the kitchen pantry is SMALL..but thats it. The house is kindof small..craftsman bungalow 1 1/2 story. What is the MINIMUM amount of space needed for a small powder room? (Toilet & tiny sink & pocket door.) Width/length? And any other tips (ie plumbing stack advice?)
